Story : The story revolves around the fact that man himself is responsible for his own experiments,
which may in turn have dire consequences. Will Rodman (James Franco or spiderman friend), a scientist, is developing a cure for Alzheimer's. For this, he is conducting tests on apes. In this test, his first subject is a chimp named Caesar (Andy Serkis).
Rodman's so called medicines are successful to an extent, in genetically modifying Caesar's way of thinking. This in turn, helps in creating a new breed of apes with human-like intelligence. Caesar comes out as a quick learner, but in a fit of anger, he loses his temper and is ordered to be locked up. He eventually finds his way out of the cage. He also catches hold of the medicine, which had been tried on him and releases it among the other apes, who were caged along with him. This results in all the other apes developing a high level of intelligence, just like Caesar. He also creates an army of apes, who work under his instructions. This results in a war between the humans and the apes. Rodman is the only one, who can stop them before the apes succeed in overpowering the humans.
Story Treatment: This movie is an outcome of digital technology put to its best. The subject may not seem out of the box, but the way it has been treated and presented, is unique in its own way. If one has seen other movies made on the same lines, one may find some similarities, yet this is a complete package in itself. The entire first part showcases Will's relationship with Caesar and his father, who is an Alzheimer's patient. It’s an experience to see apes becoming the central characters in the movie and overshadowing the rest. Each and every shot and composition has been put in place in a very calculative manner. Be it the cage scene, where all the apes are put together or the last shot, where they overpower the humans and run all over the Golden Gate Bridge, it's just so perfect.
Star Cast:Caesar (Andy Serkis) is undoubtedly the hero of the film. This is just what groundbreaking performances are made of. Even with the presence of James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Caeser ensures that none is noticed more than him. Andy seems to bring Caesar to life and overshadows the rest of the cast, to perfection. Will (James Franco), as a scientist, plays his part well, but Frieda hardly get’s any scope to show her acting skills. Caesar is shown evolving from a baby to an adult ape and in all the stages, Serkis does complete justice to the character.
Direction: Every character is a WETA Digital character. Rupert Wyatt's direction is path breaking. His direction gives you a taste of his directorial prowess. He shows complete efficiency and confidence and uses all the modern techniques available, to provide one hell of a journey to each animal lover.
Dialogues / Cinematography / Music:Wyatt and Serkis, along with the WETA FX team, have given their best shot to bring Caesar to life. They have pushed all boundaries of technology to produce something that's no less than perfect. The ape looks more believable than any other character. The dialogues are simple and just apt. The background score is instrumental in creating an impact on the viewers.
3 Ups and 3 Downs: If you're an animal lover, then this movie is a must watch. It's a thrilling ride. The beautifully captured forests and Serkis' amazing portrayal of an ape, are all are worth a watch. Watching apes at loggerheads with humanity, is a thrilling experience.
