The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel; Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Tom Wilkinson, Bill Nighy & Dev Patel.

Yes it is another film with a title that’s great for a book, but a little clunky for a feature film. The irony here is, that whilst the filmis based on a book by Deborah Moggach, that book had the much more filmfriendly title ‘These Foolish things’.  Like those literal translations of JapaneseAnime movies and movie festivals, ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ just seems alittle too odd. But it’s got one of those casts that filled with the words ‘Winner’and ‘nominee’ (Just insert various prestigious awards in front of them) thatyou can’t help but want to see  altogether, doing great things with what you hope is material that does them justice. Plusanything to sandblast the evil memories of Dev Patel in The Last Airbender (noI don’t blame him for that piss poor adaptation) from our poor assaulted minds.

These Foolish Things is the 12th novel by DeborahMoggach; she is also known for her work adapting Pride & Prejudice for theacclaimed 2005 film. She has adapted her own works for television before (Theaward winning Goggle eyes in 1993), but this film has been adapted by OlParker. It is directed by John Madden (The Debt, Shakespeare in Love) and duefor release in spring 2012.
