After a flurry of Rumours yesterday that Gerard Butler wouldbe reprising his iconic turn as King Leonidas in the prequel to 300; Producer BernieGoldmann (300, Land of The Dead) confirmed that there would be small roles forboth Butler and Headley in the film.

Speaking to Fandango, he also said that the rest of the castwas likely to be unknowns, because he feels that putting actors you know in “historical”films is a bad idea. Why? Because apparently you see the actor not thecharacter:-

"When you make a period movie like that, it's great notto know the actors...You can't see Tom Cruise in a historical movie. You go,'That's Tom Cruise!'"

Now I’ve heard this before and I’ve always thought it waspretty asinine to be honest. To hear it from a person who actually makes filmsis a little disconcerting. Not that I don’t believe some people genuinely havetrouble separating actors / stars from characters in certain circumstances;just that I think casting several characters based on this premise is going alittle too far. Not to mention the fact that Pirates of The Caribbean (to namebut 4) has had little trouble with this issue at all.
